Understanding all of this will cause a leap in cultural evolution. Assuming that it will have time to spread before our species manages to kill itself by not understanding that we cannot just sit back and wait for the Siberian permafrost to melt, and exploitative fishing to empty the seas of life, and try to come up with a solution to these issues afterwards. What happens if we do not come up with anything in this decade, or at all?
All of you should understand that the indicator for warming of the global temperature is exponential, geometric. If you, the readers, have difficulty understanding this, think of multiplying 2 by 2. The answer is 4, of course. Then multiply 4 by 4. The answer is 16. Then you multiply 16 by 16. The answer is 256. If you multiply 256 by 256, you get 65,536. And by multiplying that by itself, you get 4,294,967,296. I’m sure I don’t have to continue any further from this. You can use a calculator if you want to know what 4 billion by 4 billion equals.
The formula for such growth is X to the power of Y. In the example, Y=2 and X=2, but this does not really matter as the point is in the rate of the growth. This is how fast the global temperature is rising.
My own prediction (and I hope that I am wrong!) is that our planet will end up like Mars, the atmosphere of which contains 98% of carbon dioxide. (You can all make your own assumptions of what has happened on Mars.)
This means that when the average temperature on Earth first increases approximately y grades Celsius, it will rise y to the power of x the next year. We know this y, or at least researchers do. It is increasing constantly, with the growth of the World population. (The initial parameter X that I invented similarly increases constantly.)
The increase started in the 1800s with the industrial revolution. The burning of fossil fuels was not as extensive at that point (it was mostly coal), but it resulted in a population explosion.
All people exhale carbon dioxide. And when you count in the exhales of the animals used by the food industry for the consumption of these people, and the gases the animals emit from their other end, the reason for the increase of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is clearly evident.
Joseph Fourier first detected the greenhouse effect in 1824, and the first to study it quantitively was Svante Arrhenius 1896, a Swede; a European man who wrote about its impacts.
What happens when we do not come up with a solution for climate change this decade? (The only solution available at the moment is killing billions of people.)
This means that the World will turn into Hell! And the only thing that matters is who has the biggest devil’s fork.
We should have done something before we spilled the milk.
This is what I came to tell you: that all the countries in the world should now nationalise everything and steer the obtained resources to decreasing the temperature on the planet.
This is what we must do if we want a future for humankind.
Performing this means that all countries in the world must be turned into ecofacist police states and I don’t see that as a real option.
The Humankind exiting for Mars does not wipe away the issues on this planet or stop the same problems from following us there.
Actually, it could be enough if all the citizens of all the democratic countries would vote for their Green party, at least if all the countries in the World even had a Green party and all the biggest countries in the world were even genuinely democratic. We know that they are not.
Furthermore, representative democracy is, in fact, oligarchy. There are only 200 members of the Finnish parliament. Most of them are members of parties that dictate how the members of parliament vote.
These parties have executive teams that make the final decisions on voting. If there are, say, five major parties and five people in the executive team of each, we can quickly calculate that, in practice, 25 people make the decisions on the matters in Finland.
If this is not oligarchy, then what is?
People have a serious issue with believing that they can overcome any problems when they arise. This time it is false security, but because of it, we are letting Siberia and Greenland melt and emptying all the life from the seas, and we let mortal fools to assume power as we think that we will come up with solutions for all of these and the issues that they create, because we have always come up with remedies after spilling the milk. (They do not exist, really.)
Drought and famine will sweep over the southern hemisphere, and all the people living there will seek refuge in the north, but because we have a wealthy north and a poor south, we will just slam the door shut. We have the biggest devil’s fork in the north for sure, but the refugee flows, the refugee flows …
When Siberia and Greenland melt and the oceans have been exhausted, everything will turn into Hell, and a worldwide hunger will strike after crops dry up. More epidemics will appear since biodiversity has turned into fields and tree farms, and as the temperatures rise, they turn into deserts.
A part of the planet dries up and turns into deserts, the rest will suffer from constant hurricanes and floods. Landslides and forest fires will rage everywhere. Metropolis on the sea will be submerged in water and the homes of billions of people will be lost.
When snow stops reflecting back some of the sun light, our planet will become even hotter, and
the Hell will turn even worse.
