This is the greatest threat to the humankind. If the individuals in our World do not understand what it will lead to, homo stultus is the correct name for us. We are not wise, we are stupid. Climate change is a crime against the World.
We should all be imprisoned and sentenced before the Hague International Criminal Court. Climate change will mean death to hundreds if not thousands of millions of people. It will also cause the death of thousands of millions of animals and the loss of species on this planet. Loss of biodiversity, in the long run, will destroy the entire ecosystem.
I was taught at school that all organisms in the world need each other and that each creature, whether a plant or an animal, is significant as a part of the whole. I learned this in environmental studies when I was nine years old. Back then, I wondered if there is any single organism that the World does not need. I came to the conclusion that the Human is the only organism that the World does not need. (I was nine years old, remember)
Another thing that I learned at school a little later is that the ecosystem is capable of self-repair. If some species exist in excess, the surrounding environment will cause the population to decrease. This seems to be happening to humans quite soon.
Climate change feeds itself. This means that the more the temperature on the planet rises, the faster the acceleration in the increase of temperature. This is a geometric graph, one of exponential nature.
It is not enough that you keep setting ambitious goals. It is not enough that you will achieve the zero-carbon goal at some point in the future. You must achieve the temperatures to drop, and you only have a few decades to do this.
You know that a massive amount of methane is stored in the Siberian permafrost. Methane is a greenhouse gas, and it is 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide. If the Siberian permafrost melts, which is believed to happen when the average temperature on Earth rises by three degrees Celsius, climate change will become inevitable. After four degrees the whole Greenland will melt down. It also contains lots of methane. After this Planet Earth will burn!
To avoid this, each country in the World should declare a state of emergency!
You were able to do it when the Second World War broke out. At the time, almost all companies were harnessed to produce war equipment, on both sides. All were battling the ”evil” in unison.
Why are we unable to do it now? We are facing a worse enemy than ever, ourselves.
We should stop all carbon dioxide production immediately.
This will result in the collapse of the economy, mass unemployment and other nasty things, and the World leaders are well aware of this.
They are not, however, in possession of tools to stop the climate change and, at the same time, maintain the current standard of living and financial structures.
All are probably waiting for a revolutionary invention of some kind. I’m sorry, but you have come up with them already before.
You discovered nuclear power and before that solar power, hydropower, wind power.
You have also discovered how to utilise tide waters and geothermal heat and how to capture energy.
A global introduction of these is taking too much time at the moment. Some countries do not even have the funds to build such a infrastructure that would include green technology at a sufficient degree.
You should divide all your resources and help each other.
You have the money for international space stations, planning a trip to Mars, to maintain your weapons systems and use money on firearms, sex and drugs more than on anything else.
This is a direct reference to Miaymoto Mushasi’s Book of Five Rings that features the elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Space.
The single item on which most money is used in the world today is sex. This is water. The second item is drugs. This is wind. Firearms only come in the third place of money spent. This is fire. Food products hold the fourth place in spending. This is earth. I am sure we spend a lot of money on religion, perhaps even more than on the four aforementioned goods. This is space.
These elements, the earth, water, fire, wind and space are also the basic needs a human has: nutrition, mating, self-defence, sleep and love.
Please note the changed order of things: water, wind, fire, earth and space.
In order to be a good samurai you must understand all these elements.
Miyamoto is the most famous samurai in Japan, he lived in the 17th century. He wrote the book as guidance for his own son. He believed that a human must know their self, and the whole herd or society, the entity into which they are born, Also think of the metaphor of your own son, how close does this come to?
You should also think about Dalai Lama and when he was asked why we went to the Moon, and his answer was that we went there to get some sleep.
If you are unable to achieve a structural change that covers the whole world, you are welcome to Anthropocene, or as I like to call it, Hell!
